Privacy Policy
Learning Through Stories is a family education app for source-grounded historical stories.
Last updated: July 16, 2026
What We Collect
The app may store a family profile identifier, parent-selected story level, parent control settings, generated story drafts, Across Time episodes, private Story Journey completion progress and reading settings, private Historical Figures threads and transcripts, figure requests, voice-session records, approved story versions, credit ledger events, purchase transaction records, and generated asset metadata.
For launch, the app avoids collecting child birthdays. Parents choose the story level that fits their child.
AI Story Creation
Parents guide story creation through structured choices. AI may draft stories, Across Time dialogue episodes, capped Historical Figures responses, source notes, Truth & Imagination notes, discussion questions, audio, and images.
AI can make mistakes. Parents review and approve text before audio or images are generated.
Historical Figures Conversations
Historical Figures uses four admin-reviewed presentation classes. Young Learner Approved figures may offer bounded educational simulation. Complex figures use Examined Conversation with a separate unvoiced Historian's Note, and named morally complicated rulers begin at age 13. History's Warnings uses a neutral History Guide, and Sacred Figure Study uses a neutral Sacred History Guide. These are not real contact with a historical person.
Ages 6-8 use reviewed question choices only. Ages 9-12 may type only when a parent enables Typing for Ages 9-12 and cannot use the microphone. Eligible approved conversational figures may offer voice at levels 13-17 and 18+. History's Warnings and Sacred Figure Study are text-only.
Reviewed question choices, typed questions, and parent-reviewed speech transcripts may be sent to the text provider to create a source-bounded response. Generated response text for an eligible voice session may be sent to the speech provider to create selected AI voice audio. Generated speech is not the historical person's authentic voice.
Restricted harmful subjects are never simulated, voiced, or presented as companions. A neutral History Guide answers from evidence and emphasizes affected people, choices, warning signs, and consequences. Sacred figures are not impersonated, and the app does not generate divine speech or claim spiritual authority.
For voice turns, the app uses Apple's Speech framework to prepare a transcript. Depending on the device and Apple service availability, Apple may process microphone audio for speech recognition. Learning Through Stories sends the reviewed transcript, not a saved raw microphone recording, to its backend.
Private messages, transcripts, generated response text, Historian's Notes, guide evidence sections, source references, voice-session metadata, and generated response audio may be stored so the family can reopen the thread. Microphone capture stops after the turn, and eligible voice sessions are capped at five minutes and eight answered turns.
Private Stories
Family-created stories are private by default. They are associated with the family profile token stored on the device and protected by backend access checks.
A private story is not placed in the public catalogue unless a parent submits it, an admin reviews it, and the parent gives final publication approval.
Story Journey Progress
Story Journeys compile admin-reviewed, age-matched public stories into ordered chapters. Chapter completion, the parent's open-all choice, and the parent's Read to Me default are stored privately for the selected family profile.
Chapters open in order by default. A parent may open every chapter without marking unfinished chapters complete. A parent may also choose whether stories with approved narration open in Read to Me or Read Myself mode. Narration never starts automatically; the reader must tap Read to Me.
Completion and changing either parent setting do not spend credits or call an AI provider. Approved public narration and images are delivered only for the approved version of a published Curator story.
Curator's Pick Publication
If a parent submits a story for Curator's Pick, admins may review the story text, source notes, attribution choice, and publication status.
Public attribution may be anonymous or use a parent-provided display name. Child names, school names, addresses, contact details, and other child-identifying details are not allowed for public attribution.
Purchases And Credits
Subscriptions and credits are handled through Apple In-App Purchase. The backend records purchase transaction information needed to grant and deduplicate credits.
Story credits are used for extra story creation, Across Time episodes, illustrated packages, or keeping both draft versions when available. Pro Interactive Credits are separate. Each successful sourced Historical Figures text response uses 1 Pro Interactive Credit. A capped five-minute voice session uses 2 Pro Interactive Credits when its first successful sourced voice response is delivered and can include up to eight answered turns. Local scope redirects are free, and provider failures return charged credits.
Service Providers
The app uses Cloudflare for backend hosting, database storage, object storage, access controls, and admin review infrastructure. It uses OpenRouter for generated text, xAI for generated audio and images, Apple for speech recognition and in-app purchases, and approved source websites opened by a parent.
Generated audio, images, approved figure artwork, and private historical voice responses may be stored in Cloudflare R2 so families can access them.
The app does not use third-party advertising or tracking for launch.
Diagnostics
Cloudflare may retain limited Worker error logs and sampled request traces so launch failures, purchase verification problems, provider outages, and storage errors can be diagnosed. Automatic per-request invocation logs are disabled, and automatic traces are sampled at 5 percent. Under the current Cloudflare paid-plan terms, retained Workers Logs are available for up to 7 days.
Learning Through Stories does not deliberately place family profile identifiers, parent email, child names, family access tokens, provider keys, Apple private keys, raw signed purchase payloads, microphone recordings, or generated story and message bodies in application diagnostic messages. Diagnostic data is used for app functionality and is not used for advertising or tracking.
Pausing Or Closing An Account
Parents can begin pausing from Settings or Family. Learning Through Stories opens Apple's subscription controls and pauses only after Apple confirms monthly renewal is off. Once paused, only Settings remains available; stories, Story Journeys, creation, Historical Figures, Across Time, audio/images, Curator submissions, and credit spending are locked.
Pause preserves the family profile, private stories, Story Journey progress and reading settings, credits, and recovery link. Unpause requires Apple to confirm that the subscription is active and monthly renewal is on. Apple always asks the parent to confirm cancellation, renewal, or a new subscription purchase; Learning Through Stories cannot silently change Apple billing.
Parents can close an account completely from Settings. Closing deletes private app data as fully as possible while retaining scrubbed Apple transaction and server-notification anti-replay records so old purchases or notifications cannot be reused.
Deleting Profile Data
Parents can close an account completely from Settings. This removes private generated drafts, Across Time episodes, Story Journey completion progress and reading settings, Historical Figures conversations, messages, transcripts, voice sessions, private response audio, figure requests, legacy Pro responses and audio records/files, generated asset records/files, credit and cost rows, Curator submissions, pause markers, and recovery links tied to that profile.
The backend retains scrubbed Apple transaction and server-notification anti-replay records so old purchases or notifications cannot be reused for new credits. Apple may retain Apple account billing history under Apple's own systems.
